Nebraska Photographer's First Exhibition Just Happens to be in Europe

Beginning September 22 and continuing through October 12, Patricia Saldana-Neumann of Lincoln, Neb., will be among four international artists whose work will be displayed in an exhibition at the Colorida Art Gallery in Lisbon, Portugal. Her seven fine art photographic prints on display at the Gallery explore the alternative world of infrared photography in portraits of women and children dressed in Victorian costume.

Founded in 2007, the Colorida Art Gallery is located by the Castle of S?o Jorge in the highest hill of the historic center of Lisbon, in a building more than 150 years old. Its principal focus is the representation of an international group of contemporary artists whose diverse practices include painting, photography, sculpture and drawing.

"I know it sounds bizarre," said Saldana-Neumann. "People dressed in period clothing photographed in infrared, is not how you typically see portraits. Yet, it seemed to work. I am fascinated with recording the invisible light known as near-infrared in all of its surrealistic and odd beauty."

Saldana-Neumann shot the photographs on display with an older model Canon digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera converted to an infrared camera. The modified camera she used to shot her infrared photographs has a super-blue infrared filter located inside the camera in front of the digital sensor.

"By modifying a regular camera to one with an internal infrared filter, you can take a lot of the trail and error out of shooting in infrared and simplify the process," said Saldana-Neumann.

Saldana-Neumann listed several advantages to converting her camera to infrared versus mounting an infrared filter on the lens. "I don't necessarily have to use a tripod with my converted camera. I can hand-hold the camera. I can see the scene in front of me through the viewfinder as I would see the scene through a regular camera. Since the infrared filter is inside the camera, I can use any lens I want to shot a scene. And exposure times are very much shortened with a converted camera compared to using an infrared filter on the lens.

Aside from being fascinated with infrared photography, Saldana-Neumann is even more fascinated that her display in Portugal will be her very first exhibit anywhere. Jose Robert Moreira, director of the Colorida Art Gallery, contacted Saldana-Neumann in June after finding one of her photographs on an online gallery published by the Photo Review Journal. The Photo Review Journal is a critical journal of national scope and international readership. The magazine has earned a reputation as one of the best serious photography publications being produced today. The photograph seen by Morieira was one of her night shot taken in Lincoln.

Saldana-Neumann said Moreia contacte women's jackets d her via email and explained that he had seen her work online. He suggested that she submit recent photographs for review by Gallery staff for possible inclusion in a future exhibition at the Gallery.

"I was very skeptical at first and feared that this may be a some sort of scam," she said. "However, I checked out their Website and contacted several American artists who had exhibited there previously," she said. "The Gallery proved to be legitimate and has a great reputation for promoting emerging talent."

"He made no guarantees," said Saldana-Neumann. "I took a risk. Instead of submitting images of my night photography, I sent him my most recent images of infrared photograph," she said. Two months later, he contacted her again and offered her the opportunity to display her infrared photographs at the Gallery.

"I am so incredibly excited," said Saldana-Neumann. "I'm a relative newcomer to digital photography, so to be exhibited internationally is a huge honor," she said.

Saldana-Neumann recalls her experience with photography as an undergraduate journalism student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Back then, she said, manual focus and 35mm film-based cameras were the norm. For photography classes, she bought a Minolta SR-T201 SLR, her first film camera, a classic by anybody's standards. She still has it and says it works beautifully, especially for black and white images.

Over time, she set down her camera, had a family, went back to school for a graduate degree in journalism at UN-L. Four years ago, after many years sans camera, she took up photography again, taking classes at Southeast Community College.

"Nearly everything I know about photography today, I learned from my photography instructor at Southeast Community College, a fantastic teacher by the name of Barbara Hagan," said Saldana-Neumann. "I started with the beginner's class, learning the features of my first digital camera and continued to take Barbara's more advanced photography classes. She helped shape my perception of photography, gave me a solid foundation of technique and provided me with an appreciation for fine art photography. Through her, I rediscovered the absolute joy of photography."

Today, fine art photography is Saldana-Neumann's passion and her obsession. "I love telling a visual story, creating a mood and illustrating a scene that may at times leave the viewer questioning its existence," she said. Night photography and color infrared photography are her focus. "I enjoy capturing light that people are too busy to notice or just cannot see," Saldana-Neumann said.

Her night work has been published in Photography Forum's 2011 Best of Photography Annual and an online gallery of the Photo Review Journal. In January and February 2013, she will be exhibiting more infrared photos in a group show with several other photographic artists in Lincoln at A-Z Printing.

Votive Candle Making

Votive candles are known as the easiest kind of candles to make. Aside from this fact, it can be used in any type of surrounding in order to add charm and sometimes, aroma, to the ambience. Your usual votive candle can stay lighted for about 15 hours or until it uses up all its candle wax. Body: As we all know, candles are made to provide light. Another reason would be its ability as a good source of heat. This would be since it consists of fuel that has a solid block form and a wick.

During the 19th century, the material used for making candles is called tallow. It is a derivative of beef-fat. At present, candles are made from wax. The usual material used now is paraffin, but some candles can also be made from soy, beeswax, or gel.

Candle manufacturers are called chandlers. Different types of equipments have been created in order to put candles in place. This is from your plain tabletop holders to exquisite chandeliers. By using a match or any fire source, its heat would melt the candle then it would vaporize a very minute quantity of fuel.

When the fuel is already vaporized, it then mixes with oxygen from the atmosphere which will result to the formation of flame. With the heat produced by this flame, it helps maintain the candle by burning throughout the last wax component of the candle stick.

The mechanism for this is that once the flame heats the candle wax, it then melts the solid fuel, after which, the fuel that is already in liquid form would move upward the wick. Then the fuel would vaporize in order to burn and produce flame.

In the early ages, electricity was not available. Candles as well as oil were utilized as light sources. This was common in Europe and the Mediterranean. Nowadays, candles are utilized for decorative purposes or to set an ambience of relaxation or romance. In addition, it is also used today as an emergency source of light during an event of power failures. As for therapy, candles are mixed with scents and essential oils in order to promote a soothing, relaxing and curative effect. This is called aromatherapy.

The downside of using a candle is that it is a fire hazard. Moreover, due to the fact that the melted wax is very hot, it can cause burns when accidentally placed on your skin. In order to prevent such things to happen, one should practice precautionary measures while using candles. It should not be placed within reach of small children as well near curtains or any fabrics which can burn easily.

In order to prevent skin burns when using candles, especially in putting it off, it is best to make use of a candle snuffer. It is a tiny metal cup with a long handle. In addition, if one has source oxygen, like an oxygen tank, one should not use a candle. This is due to the fact that when the lighted candle is exposed to this oxygen, it can cause combustion.

Thus, Votive candles are known as the easiest kind of candles to make. Aside from this fact, it can be used in any type of surrounding in order to add charm and sometimes, aroma, to the ambience. Your usual votive candle can stay lighted for about 15 hours or until it uses up all its candle wax.

A nicely created voti women's jackets ve candle has a standard burning degree. This is in order to attain the right volume of scent. Furthermore, a votive candle should be placed in a candle holder because it is not made to stand on its own.

The things that you would need in making a votive candle are the following:

Wax additives
Wax which are suitable in making votives
Fragrance oil (this is optional)
Dye (this is optional)
Pre-tabbed wicks that are suitable for making votives (usually 36-24-24 zinc core)
Metal votive molds
Mold release spray (this is optional)
Pouring pot

The first step would be to make mixture of metal wax. For this process, you would need a double boiler. The temperature should be around 175° F in order to melt the wax. After melting the wax, you can place additives such as stearic acid or vybar, fragrance oil, and dye into the mixture.

Subsequent to this, you need to mix them all thoroughly. Always remember not to introduce air in your mixture. Furthermore, before you pour the wax mixture, you can put a small amount of coat mold-release agent on the mold. This is in order for you to easily remove the candle wax.

The next step is to place your votive mold onto a surface line, along with newspapers. This is in order to catch spills. Then, fill the mold with melted wax up to the mold's lip without letting it over flow. Remember not to have it less than the lip's underneath portion. This is due to the fat that it may seam lines on your already finished candle.

Another thing to take note of is that you cannot introduce air bubbles while pouring in the wax mixture. You also need to save about 20% of the wax mixture for the re-pour step. Thus, do not place the saved wax mixture under any type of heat.

The third step would be to place a pre-tabbed wick inside your candle. Wait for the wax to cool down before you insert the wick. This is due to the fact that when the wick is inserted while the wax is hot, it will interfere with the wick's firmness. It is better to place the wick when the wax is just beginning to congeal in order to maintain its firmness. Moreover, try to put the wick inside center and to keep it straight as much as possible.

The fourth step would be to re-pour the wax. Once the wax has totally cooled down, it can shrink in some levels and cause the candle to have a sink hole. With the saved wax, you can pour it onto the whole. The trick would be to melt the saved wax in a temperature of 190 F so as to have the two waxes to stick together. Wait for the wax to cool down.

The last step would be to take out the votive from the mold. Once the wax is already completely cool, you can now remove it from the candle mold. If the wax has completely cooled down, it can easily be removed. This is because it will just slide out from the mold. If you experience difficulty in taking out the candle from the mold, place the mold for 5 minutes inside the freezer then try to remove it again. If it is still hard to remove, you can try to press the mold sides in an inward fashion. Do this as gently as possible while rolling it between your palms, so as to facilitate the candle's release.

Thus, candles remain an essential part of our world's history. Traditions also play a huge role on the implementation of a candle's significance in society. We use candles during special moments, parties and certain celebrations. Birthday cakes, weddings, and Halloween are not the same without candles.

Throughout the years, candles have changed and modernized already. They now come in different shapes, sizes, styles and fragrances. Their fragrances are now derived from natural resources such as bayberry, Bees wax and soybeans among others. Popular fragrances would include lavender, blue berry, gardenia, lemon pie as well as Grandma's cookies.

In the older years, you can only purchase candles from specialty shops and stores. Now, with practicality as a very important trait, you can make your own scented candle at home already.

Short Sale Hardship Letter: Crucial Elements For Success

The short sale hardship letter is one of the most important elements in orchestrating a successful proposal. Short sales are an alternative option for people facing foreclosure. This type of arrangement is made between the homeowner and lender and allows the borrower to sell the home for a lesser amount than is owed on the mortgage note.

A well-crafted short sale hardship letter can significantly increase your chances of having your offer accepted. Recent reports claim foreclosure rates are rapidly escalating. Some areas report increases as high as 57-percent.

Today, lenders are receiving short sale offers at an alarming rate. Experts suggest only one out of ten proposals are accepted. In order to stand apart from the crowd it's imperative to create an organized and well-documented short sale package.

In order to apply for a short sale, the first thing you'll need to do is contact your lender's Loss Mitigation Department. Individuals who work in this department are known as Loss Mitigators. A personal mitigator will be assigned to your account and will work with you to resolve the situation. They may offer other options prior to allowing you to apply for a short sale.

Organizing a short sale package will vary from lender to lender. However, most will request the following:

1. Financial Stateme women's jackets nt providing proof of income and expenses
2. Hardship Letter
3. Recent checking, savings and investment statements from all borrowers
4. Documentation proving the real estate listing information of the property
5. Signed Sales Contract
6. Estimate Settlement Statement (HUD-1)
7. Proof of buyer's financing

Keep in mind that lenders and banks are in business to make money. Accepting a short sale offer will cause them to incur a loss. The contents of your short sale package must prove to your lender you are incapable of maintaining your mortgage payments. You need to show them how accepting your short sale offer will benefit them. How do you accomplish this?

First, gather your financial records including bank and credit card statements, utility bills, medical expenses, child care, food, gas, insurance, auto loans, etc. Create a spreadsheet to show where you spend your money. It doesn't have to be fancy, but should be broken down by month to provide a detailed overview of where your money goes.

Do not charge unnecessary expenses to your credit card or take out loans for a minimum of three months prior to filing your short sale offer. If your lender notices you purchased expensive jewelry, took a vacation or spent $100 at a fancy restaurant, you can pretty much kiss your offer good-bye. This is not to be interpreted as suggesting you hide these charges. In your hardship letter you can express your remorse and explain the steps you are taking to change your spending habits.

Organizing your information beforehand will provide beneficial insight that you can include in your hardship letter. If you're facing foreclosure, chances are you are embarrassed by the situation. You might be tempted to hide or sugar-coat the truth. However, when it comes to a short sale, the Hardship Letter is the document that can make or break your deal.

Experts suggest hand writing your hardship letter. A hand written letter on notebook paper is more effective in sending a message that says, "I need help." If you have illegible handwriting, ask someone to hand write the letter for you.

Use a business-style format when writing your letter. At the top include the date, your name, address, phone number and email address, if you have one. Next include the name of your lender and your loan number. At the end of the hardship letter include your signature and the signature of any co-signers, if applicable.

The body of the hardship letter will be used to tell your story. This is the place to explain the series of events that caused you to fall into financial ruin. It should present an emotional plea that says, "I am in distress and I need your help." Close the letter by expressing gratitude and thank them for taking time to review your offer.

If you believe short sale is a good option for you, consider working with an experienced professional. They can assist you in organizing your offer and become involved in negotiations with your lender.

Soapstone Counter Top: A Popular Alternative

Soapstone co women's coats unter tops are becoming a more popular alternative to granite or quartz for some people since soapstone is nearly indestructible, requires very little maintenance and blends well with many design themes.

A soapstone counter top is durable, heat and stain resistant like granite, simple to install and fits most household budgets. A unique feature is the ability to integrate a soapstone sink into the design as well.

What Is Soapstone

Soapstone, also called steatite or soap rock, is a metamorphic rock that is composed mostly of talc. It is produced when the tectonic plates are subducted, and has been used for carving in many cultures for thousands of years. Along with talc, soapstone also contains different amounts of chlorite, amphiboles, and even magnesium.

Characteristics

Soapstone counter tops are silky smooth and feels somewhat "soapy" when touched. It is commonly used in chemistry labs and kitchens, since it resists acid and doesn't stain or absorb liquids. Soapstone is even used in fireplaces and wood stoves for it's ability to retain and evenly distribute heat.

Soapstone will not burn or stain, and acids cannot etch soapstone like marble or other stone countertops. Contractors can easily cut soapstone on job sites, which makes it a much easier material to deal with than marble or granite.

Colors and Design

Soapstone counter tops are available with a limited color range, but colors differ depending on where in the world it was quarried. Untreated soapstone normally has a solid light green or gray color to it, but applying a coat of mineral oil can darken it to a shiny black.

Some varieties of soapstone, most commonly found in Brazil and other Southern American countries, contain white veins similar to those found in marble. This variety of soapstone tends to be softer and potentially more easily damaged.

Soapstone works best for those who are looking for a dark theme in their kitchen, and matches exceptionally great with stainless steel appliances.

Soapstone Sinks

Soapstone sinks are also very popular due to the large basins, integrated drain boards and many other features that can make a smart addition to your project.

Soapstone is easy to work with and virtually any custom size or shaped sink can be created; however, many dealers have basic soapstone sink shapes and sizes for purchased.

Care and Cleaning

A soapstone counter top is highly chemical and heat resistant so regular household cleaners can be used without worry. Always use a cutting board since nicks and scratches can occur when using knives or other sharp objects directly on the surface.

The good news is that blemishes can easily be buffed out with some sand paper and mineral oil.

Sealing is unnecessary, but mineral oil is commonly applied in order to quickly darken the soapstone. This color change will happen naturally over time, but many people prefer the shiny black surface you get from mineral oil.

Cost and Installation

Cost of a soapstone counter top varies from company to company, especially since different companies sell different types of soapstone from all over the world. A higher quality slab of soapstone can run for a few thousand dollars, but is well worth the cost since soapstone can last a lifetime.

Soapstone sinks also vary in price, mostly depending on the size and shape of the sink. Custom jobs require estimates to be made by the supplying company, but typically range from about $300 to $3000.

Soapstone has been used for centuries in household construction. Soapstone counter tops have many desirable characteristics and a proven durability.

The darker colors are certainly sleek and modern, but also work well with rustic or country designs. If your installing a new countertop, definitely consider soapstone. You'll enjoy it's beauty and resiliency throughout years of happy use!

Fashion Tips: Dressing Your Age

Just because you are on your way to your midlife crisis that does not mean you should go around looking like a walking fashion emergency. If you are already in your 40s or 50s, you should not give up dressing well. By this time, you have probably set aside a sizable nest egg and climbed your way up the career ladder. It is time you begin dressing for your position in life, and your age.

Trends Have Age Limits, Too
As tempted as you might be to get on with current fashion trends, they are not going to flatter you once you have hit 40. Do not bother with that cropped leather jacket, and do not even think about picking up that deep v-neck tee. Even if you have the right body for it, clothing pieces that are too stylized will simply make you look awkward. You do not want to step out looking like you borrowed an outfit from your 20-year old nephew.

Living La Vida Leisure
There is a good chance that you have begun winding down your career by now. You probably take weekends off a lot more often. Heck, you are probably a regular at the nearby golf course. If you have been sticking to a career-oriented suits-and-ties wardrobe this past decade or so, it is time to loosen up your outfits and dress for your new, more relaxed lifestyle.

Retire some of the starched and stiffer pieces of your wardrobe and learn the virtues of a solid-colored polo paired with jeans or chinos. Pick up a casual shirt, roll up the sleeves and then partner it with dark wash jeans. Hang loose; you have earned it. If you find the changes too sudden, you can do it gradually, month by month. Start with a sport coat over casual shirts and chinos so that you get a look that is not too far from typical office attire.

Fit for Forties
As you get older, it becomes more and more important to get clothes that fit you, and fit you well. Many older men make the mistake of shopping at trendy, brand-name clothing stores and end up with butt-hugging denims and tees that only a runway model should wear. You have gone beyond the permissible age of sexiness, so you should simply aim to be stylish with everything you wear.

Go shop for clothes that fit you well in all the right places (your waist and shoulders, for example) but fall away slightly from your body. That way, while you do not end up wearing yards of extra fabric, you do not show off anything unflattering either. Straight cut denims that fit you like chinos and regular or vintage fit shirts should work best for your new style.

At this point, you may want to consider getting the services of a professional tailor. A good tailor will be able to give you clothes that fit you specially well, making you look even better than if you had shopped at the department store. Besides, you can probably afford it by now. If you can get a name or an establishment from a trusted friend, drop by and get a shirt or two made, just to try it out. You will be thankful you did.

Dont try dressing like a 20-year old once you have passed 40. You will j women's jackets ust look like you are trying too hard to cling on to a youth gone by. Wearing fitted, designer duds is about as tasteful and elegant as liposuction and botox treatments, which is to say, not at all. Dressing well into your forties and fifties wont just make you look good; it will make you look every inch the made man that you are.

The Papillon Dog Breed Tips You Must Know

Dogs come in all shapes and sizes to make great family pets. There are always dog lovers out there that have a favorite breed, but how do you know what you may like if you don't know the breeds peculiarities. If you have never really been around dogs you should always find as much information about them as possible including the breeds that are available and how you should interact with them. The Papillon dog breed is considered a toy. It is one of the smaller dogs among the list. You will find that it is also an older breed in European history.

Dating back to the sixteenth century you will find the Papillon was considered a lap dog for most of the nobles in Europe. The name means butterfly in the French translation and when you see this dog you will understand why it is an apt name. The ears really resemble the wind span of a butterfly with the shape and the hair that grows around them. In fact you could argue their ears are actually larger than their face. You will find this dog weighs nine to ten pounds and stands about eight to eleven inches.

They have one women's coats of the finest coats in the dog breeds as well. They are usually white with patches of black, tan, and other colors. The coat is long and almost silky. You will find they are soft to pet and that their hair is going to be a little longer than most dog breeds. Luckily the hair doesn't grow to long on their limbs, but they are fairly fluffy in appearance all around.

Like most dog breeds in the toy category you will find the Papillon dog to be extremely playful, alert, and affectionate. They are also well known for their elegance. They do not make a great guard dog as they tend to be overly affectionate with everyone. You will find they are not shy or aggressive. They like to be the center of attention, and despite their size you will find them to be quite sturdy.

It likes to have plenty of affection and doesn't do well with mistreatment; therefore older children are recommended before adding the Papillon to your family. You will also find they can be a little protective towards the family or owner, but they will never be dangerous.

Training is one of the easier options you have with this dog breed. Most dogs can display a stubbornness during training, but not the Papillon. They are eager to learn and like complex problems for their intelligence. If you are hoping to integrate them into a family you will need a little socialization training regarding other pets.

They tend to like being protective and the attention seeker, which may cause issues. You will find this is often a show dog or used for therapy because of their temperament. You will also find they need to have daily exercise if you hope to keep them healthy and happy. They do need to have yard space or parks that they can go to for running and playing. You should never leave this dog in the backyard unsupervised though. They tend to have issues escaping.

Care for your Papillon requires weekly grooming for their hair. They are medium shedders and they tend to get a little tangled during the week. You will also find they are prone to ear issues and the paws need to be trimmed at appropriate intervals. Health issues you may find with these dogs are cataracts, petalla luxation, and Von Willebrands disease.

Business Litigation Attorney: Minimizing Litigation Risk

The highly nervous young lawyer stepped up to plead his case before the court. Laying his coat and hat on the bench, he stood before the judge.

"Is this the first time you've practiced in this Court?"

"Yes, your honor," replied the lawyer, fearing that he'd already committed some grave procedural error.

"Then get your hat and coat and put them where you can keep an eye on them!"

It is a fact of life that trusts is a virtue to be practiced but not taken for granted. And for the business owner, it is only a matter of time before that trust is somehow violated, resulting in legal problems.

As business owners, awareness about the legality of every aspect of one's business can mean the difference between the occasional "course correction" and the damaging effects of a lengthy and expensive trial.?

So, how best to avoid legal troubles?

While solutions differ depending on the nature of one's business, there are prudent measures any manager can take to reduce the likelihood of business litigation.

·???????? Education. Make sure that personnel are being kept up to date on current laws, regulations, and statutes. Also ensure that best practices within the company are adopted, communicated and followed. Ongoing employee training sessions about harassment, discrimination, safety and other concerns will greatly reduce the incidence of lawsuits now and in the future.

·???????? Accounting. Are your books in order? Are you ready if the Tax Man stops by for a visit?

·???????? Protection.

§???????? Find and purchase business liability insurance.

§???????? Do background checks on all potential employees, business partners, lending institutions, customers and suppliers. Know who you're dealing with.

§???????? Establish arbitration agreements to avoid complications should a future dispute arise.

·???????? Compliance. Ensure that an advisory or compliance committee is monitoring every company action for adherence to legal requirements.

·???????? Counsel. Hire an attorney to review all contracts, purchase and sale agreements, leases, patent applications, non-compete agreements, real estate concerns and other legal documents or issues.

·???????? Respect. Treat everyone and every business entity with the same respect you would accord yourself. Many potentially disastrous situations have been avoided or resolved by the offending party admitting fault (after consulting an attorney, when necessary), and seeking a peaceful resolution. Arrogance is the first step to war- humility is the only insurance against it.

But what happens if, despite your best efforts, the business is facing a lawsuit?

Depending on the situation, you have the following options:

·???????? Arbitration. As stated before, some situations can be steered away from the courtroom and into a neutral location where a peaceful resolution can be secured. This may only take a phone call or two, but may ultimately involve lengthy meetings between the opposing parties, the result being an internal policy change or an agreement to improve particular business practices for the good of all concerned.

·???????? Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). While ADR may not be the best answer in some cases, many companies and other business entities have found this a viable alternative to litigation. By seeking resolution through mediation, binding fashion jackets arbitration or conciliation, parties have greater control over the outcome and costs of the proceedings, as well as flexibility in dealing with the process itself.

·???????? Go To Court. In some cases, dispute resolution in court is the only option. Some legal matters are so complex that it may be in the best interest of both parties to have the matter settled legally, once and for all. But even here, the case may not go to trial. Some clients, not comprehending the full impact of business litigation to their profits and image, may decide to settle out of court.

Business owners can avoid most legal trouble by educating themselves and their employees, managing responsibly and treating their customers and fellow business partners with respect and trust. It's not a perfect world out there, but competing enterprises can peacefully coexist if they share these common goals.??

English Setter Essential Facts And Advice

The English Setter was bred to flush out the birds after giving a quiet alert to its Master that it had found a covey. Through the years it has kept this instinct strong.

The history of the English Setter, a hunting dog, is very ancient. It is one of the oldest known hunting breeds. It was written about as early as the fourteenth century as a specific "setting" dog. Typically a "Setter" will seek out a covey of quail or other birds and freeze in place when it finds them. The "set" is a freezing in place and they will not give chase after the prey.

One might compare this to an "alert" as the term is used for example in the area of Search and Rescue. The dog thus gives an obvious display to the hunter that it has come upon a covey or group of birds. On command of the hunter the Setter will then flush out the birds. This breed should not go after rabbit or other game.

The English Setter is "long on leg" and rather tall and rangy. The coloring is quite unusual, a roan/brindle combination known as "Belton" in varying shades of blue, red, tan, lemon, or black with white. The term "Belton" actually comes from a village in England where one of the founding breeders of the Setter , Mr. Edward Lavarack, developed his stock.

Through his careful breeding program a very useful hunting dog was perfected. The dog is muscular and lean, with a well developed nose for smelling out the birds, well angulated in the rear and with strong legs built for ranging across rugged land. The instinctive "setting" of the dog is of course natural to the breed. The coat should be slightly wavy and long and silky. Natural oils within keep the coat free of brambles and weather resistant.

The English Setter is relatively free of heritable disease except for hip dysplasia. This condition is not as prevalent in this breed however as it is with many of the other larger breeds, so in general it is a healthy dog. Occasional bathing and regular brushing are necessary and the English Setter does need plenty of exercise, for it is a working breed and very active.

For many years in England the Setter was kept within the home as a family pet besides being the Master's hunting dog. It was expected to be friendly and loyal with an even and non aggressive temperament. They should b women's coats e affectionate and loyal and accepting of strangers and other dogs, for often they are required to work in the field with a variety of hunters and dogs. They should also be placid and settle quietly when in the house, not being "wild" and overly active.

The English Setter is a highly intelligent dog and should be an easy dog to train, anxious to please, willing to work for many hours in the field and also be quietly reserved in the home. Although there are still careful breeders who work hard to maintain this stable temperament, there are also an abundance of breeders who do not strive for this goal. Consequently there are some Setters today who do not posses good temperament, and the person who is seeking a puppy of this breed would do well to investigate the source of the breeding.
