SET Boutique is approaching its one year anniversary, and is celebrating with a burst of color and prints. Newly added dresses from Mata Traders feature vintage inspired prints with crisp colors. "The silhouettes are feminine, fun, and of course fair trade", says owner Lindsay Sullivan.
SET Boutique stands for Support Ethical Trade and the e-commerce website is devoted to promoting alternative shopping options for the eco and social conscious consumer. The breezy dresses, tops, and skirts are made in India through women operated co-ops that offer excellent pay and benefits. They receive steady income based on consistent orders that rely on their traditional block printing, hand weaving, and embroidery skills.
In addition to the Indian made clothing, SET Boutique has also added products fr women's jackets om new countries which bring the total number of countries supported to 18. Hand crafted brass and copper earrings and cuffs from South Africa, and carved tagua nut earrings and rings from Columbia have already received positive feedback. Sullivan is most proud of the new items from Rwanda because she hand picked them during her visit in February. She explains that "the mother of the family I stayed with made the jewelry on the side and uses the profits to purchase medical insurance for the children in her neighborhood. I was thrilled to bring pieces home for the website and tell her story".
